Why We Bake

The California Gathering Company was founded not born from a simple dream. It was built in the aftermath of loss. After losing our son, the world became quieter in a way were never prepared for. Things that once felt important no longer mattered in the same way, and the days ahead felt uncertain. So, we chose to build something. With our hands. We measured, mixed, lifted, painted and kept going. Not because it was easy and not because it took the pain away, but because it gave us a place to put it. The bakery became that place. A place where early mornings have purpose. Where the smell of fresh bread fills the air. Where people gather, even if just for a moment, to share something simple and good. Every loaf, every pastry, every detail you see here was created with care, intention and a quiet understanding of what it means to keep moving forward. We don’t claim that this space fixes what is broken. But it reminds us that even in grief, there can still be warmth. There can still be connections. There can still be something with sharing.
